BAT FOR LASHES LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Bat For Lashes brought her unique style of performance art and music to one of Manchester’s newest and very beautiful venues. Aviva Studios (Manchester International Festival) played host to Bat For Lashes (Natasha Khan) on their smaller more intimate stage which suited her perfectly.

The lighting complimented the graceful movement and atmospheric music which had haunting qualities and stunned the audience into silence, mesmerised by the spectacle on stage.

Khan announced that this was the last night of the UK tour and she was delighted to be back in Manchester. The trio of talented musicians held their own and provided a perfect backing for Khan to do her thing. The attention to detail was sublime, from the ambient lighting to Khan’s striking outfit that made for an angelic appearance on the well lit stage.

The choreography was tight, and the first track was mainly movement until Khan started to sing. Raw, heartfelt and delicate vocals to enhance the movement on stage even more, leaving Khan looking vulnerable with the rest of the band in near darkness, it was a brave set up but it worked.

The setlist was generous and included tracks ‘The Dream of Delphi’, ‘Mountains’ and Moon and Moon’ depicting a familiar theme of nature and the universe. The set ended with another ethereal track ‘Wilderness’ part of three track encore.

This was the final night of the UK tour but Bat For Lashes will be heading North in August, playing in Edinburgh, so if you do find yourself North of the border this summer check her out, it is quite a surreal delight!
