FATBOY SLIM LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

It was the turn of the superstar DJ himself to play the famous Castlefield bowl this week. Fatboy Slim graced Manchester’s most famous outdoor venue to a packed bowl as people flocked to see one of his famous electrifying sets in person.

The sounds of the city event takes place annually and sees a stellar line up of bands, solo artists and DJ’s playing over a two week period in this famous venue, amongst the viaducts and skyscrapers of Deansgate, and conveniently located near the canal side bars.

The crowd were decked out in Hawaiian shirts (a trademark garment of Fatboy Slim) bucket hats and smiley face tees – a clear nod to the 90’s acid house days, many reliving their youth and getting ready for a long night of raving.

The crowd were warmed up and ready for Norman Cook to take to then stage and the speakers launched into Queens ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ mashed up with ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat’. The light show was nearly as impressed as Cook himself, adding to the aesthetics with the crowd lapping up Cook’s infectious energy.

The setlist saw all the crowd pleasers, some again interjected with Queen songs which were enthusiastically sung back by the audience. There were plenty of beat drops which again scored a huge cheer from the crowd with drinks being launched repeatedly through the set. The track list was varied but all high octane numbers (he’s not really known for his ballads let’s be honest!), ‘Praise You’ and ‘Right Here Right Now’.

Fatboy Slim is playing a number of high profile venues this summer including another Northern date in August just over the hills in Halifax’s beautiful Piece Hall. So for a nostalgia packed night of raving I highly recommend you check one of his shows out, just wear comfortable shoes and of course bucket hats are optional!
