HOZIER LIVE AT LYTHAM FESTIVAL – WHAT HAPPENED?

Lytham Fest 2024 kicked off with a belting opening night of live music which is the first of five nights set in this beautiful coastal town. This evening was a sell out, and music lovers flocked to the green to be welcomed by a host of culinary delights, a very impressive VIP area for those wanting a more luxurious experience, and the sun was out!

Cuffe and Taylor are becoming known for putting smaller towns on the map, Halifax, Scarborough and Lytham to name but. a few. I must also take this opportunity to give a shout out to Rhodes Media who really know how to run a festival, and always provide the warmest of welcomes to us press folk (thank you yet again Sarah and Jon!).

I arrived just in time for Lord Huron who were warmly welcomed by an ever growing crowd. The American rockers played a number of their greatest hits in an hour set, most notably ‘The Night We Met’ which received a huge cheer from the audience and proved to be quite an emotional moment as the audience gently swayed in the late evening sunlight.

The set was very retro, with lead singer Ben Schneider using an old American telephone as part of the performance, as well as pulling off some very retro dance moves with a nod to classic country and western.

The wonderful element of Lytham Festival is a the vast variety of genres, each evening well curated so no matter what your taste, there will be something to enjoy. Following on from the mighty Lord Huron was Brittany Howard. Howard was of course lead singer of Alabama Shakes and multiple Grammy award winner.

The whole outfit was exceptionally talented, with enough sass to fill the green ten times over! Howard has a beautiful voice, complimented by her backing singers and band. The audience was now well warmed up for the headliner thanks to Howards magical performance which was a nice contrast to the previous acts.

Hozier fever had truly gripped this seaside town. On my walk from the carpark, stalls had sprung up selling a variety of hats and t shirts adorned with the Irish rockers name. The audience went wild when Hozier strolled onto the stage and looked every inch the rockstar.

Hozier played an impressive two hour set and the crowds enthusiasm never dwindled as they sang enthusiastically to hits such as ‘To Be Alone’ his massive hit ‘Take Me To Church’ and of course his more recent track ‘Too Sweet’. The four track encore ended the night perfectly and certainly kicked off this series of outdoor shows with a bang! There are many more exciting acts lined up this weekend so check out the link below for last minute tickets and take a trip to the coast!
