PURESSENCE LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester icons Puressence returned after a 14 year hiatus to a sold out Albert Hall this weekend, The band who have built a cult following were warmly greeted by hordes of fans who had packed out the famous halls to see this hotly anticipated reunion.

The crowd were suitable warmed up by two support acts, first up was Concrete Club. The band are a force of nature, with indie influences and a shed load of charisma, this group were the ideal band to kick off a night of nostalgia, with a nod to 90’s indie icons, as well as more contemporary sounds from Sam Fender to The Libertines!

Next on the bill were Purple Heart Parade who also were also jam packed with charisma and impressive guitar riffs, but let down somewhat by the vocals which were lost amongst the heavy bass lines and guitars. I am not sure if this was a general sound issue that on occasion can plague this venue, but this was more than made up for in stage presence alone by frontman Pete who channelled a young Bobby Gillespie. The crowd were certainly enamoured and more than ready for the main event.

Puressence has been the hot topic of industry social media for most of June with musicians and gig-goers eager to see the reformation of the Failsworth band. As crowd reactions go this was one of the most intense roars I have heard for a while as the band walked on stage. Formed in the early 90’s the band split up in 2013 after nearly making it big, but by the reaction of the crowd this evening it certainly felt like icons returning to home turf.

Frontman James Mudriczki launched into their first track ‘Near Distance’ and to many it felt like the band had never been away. The setlist really did showcase the best of Puressence, with songs including ‘All I Want’, ‘Traffic Jam’ and then a three track encore closing the show with ‘India’. Mudriczki is known for his powerful vocals and tonight was no exception as his voice filled the Albert Hall, and his fans responded by singing back every word.

This latest gig which sold out in a matter of minutes surely paves the way for a return as the band could have sold out the venue twice over with the demand for tickets! To keep tabs on any further Puressence dates check out the links below!
