If you miss the boyband era, then British band Absnt Mind is definitely here to fill that void. Indeed, their debut single, “No Strings”, brings back the nostalgia of One Direction, for the pleasure of old and new fans alike.

The band is composed of the talented Alex, Ashton, Conor, Freddie and Oscar. While this is their first official release, they already boast an impressive 10k+ loyal followers on Instagram, and over 30k on Tik Tok, with a UK tour scheduled over the Summer.

Starting together as a band covering songs from artists like Raye, Harry Styles, and SZA, they take inspiration from the said artists while creating something unique. “No Strings” is a modern pop anthem that gives a first taste of what we can expect from Absnt Mind.

Lyrically, the song draws inspiration from the band’s journey of breaking free from the pressures their generation faces, encouraging listeners to live in the moment and cherish meaningful relationships.

The opening lines, “You only want me when I’m walking away / You wanna talk when I got nothing to say” immediately set the tone for a song about seeking genuine commitment over something fleeting.

Moreover, the chorus reinforces this message: “I can’t do no strings attached / I want more than a part, I want all of your heart.” This theme of wanting deeper, meaningful connections is found throughout the song and is somehow a refreshing contrast to the typical image of today’s youth. Besides the lyrics, I’m a huge fan of the chorus, where all members sing together as it showcases how well their voices blend together.

Additionally, the music video follows the boys on a journey through the city, starting with a ride on the tube. They explore different parts of town and end up on a rooftop with a breathtaking view at night. The video ends at a party in the middle of a fast-food restaurant where the band and their friends share their best dance moves, making us all want to dance along.

Absnt Mind has a bright future ahead so if you want to say you were there before all the hype, make sure you catch them on tour soon. Dates below:
