London-based R&B artist Chantelle is on a mission to make 2024 her year. Starting strong, April saw the release of her debut single, It Is What It Is, setting the tone of what to expect from this shiny new personality.

The vibe is instantly set upon hitting play. An atmospheric intro of synths and clean guitar blooms, before dropping into a chilled beat that clicks and ticks atop a rhythmic bass sequence. Subtle guitar licks reinforce the verse with attitude, reminiscent of 00s R&B.

But Chantelle’s vocals are what truly characterise the track. Pretty but powerful, she flows between high and low with melodic perfection, displaying impressive range. Her melodies only flourish as the chorus takes hold. Catchy hooks envelop the lyrics It is what it is/it’s over, done, did, while the background arrangement grows with inch-perfect precision.

The second verse and chorus are decorated with tasteful adlibs and harmonies. Many parts are present within the track, but the levels remain balanced, maintaining a calm vibe.

This debut from Chantelle is packed with potential and suggests that success is on her horizon.
