You may know of Mat Hook already, former frontman of popular Sheffield indie-rock band ‘Kartica’.

Now, Mat is back on the solo music scene with a fresh new sound, with ‘Bleed Me Dry’ being the newest addition to his new catalogue of songs.

‘Bleed Me Dry’ is the follow up to his songs ‘Runaway Road’ and ‘Alone You Go’.

If you like 90’s Britpop, you’ll appreciate the smooth backing track that matches Mat’s dulcet tones, reminds me a little bit of The Verve’s slower songs.

The beginning is upbeat, but simmers into a relaxing indie-pop tune which you can’t help but nod your head to.

The lyrics are powerful and at times, a little bit sad, but you wouldn’t pick up on that given the style that Mat has gone with, it’s not a bad thing!

It settles into a really nice rhythm, could be one of your more mellow summer tunes to add to your playlist.

The guitar twangs particularly stand out to me, they connect all the different elements and keep it punchy, and the drums aren’t overpowering either.

Overall a very versatile, punchy track, with emotional lyrics and it is just the right length, I look forward to see what Mat comes up with next!
