Proud Doncaster dwellers The Denabys are erupting into the summer season with their second single of the year. It’s called Can You Feel It, and it’s a product of reinforcement as the group continues to rise through the ranks of the alternative scene.

Right off the bat, Can You Feel It is high-octane and brimming with an infectious energy. A choppy bass riff kicks things off before an overdriven guitar chord rings atop a swelling drum sequence. But the intro is short as the lead guitar soon steals the riff, solidifying the song with a palpable adrenaline rush.

The verse sees the instrumentation make way for the singer’s incredibly punchy vocals, nodding to the likes of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. However, The Denabys seem to have nurtured a tonal edge – that wasn’t present when I last reviewed one of their songs – separating them from their influences. This recognisable progression is a huge positive for the band.

Between the verses and instrumental sections lies the chorus, which comprises pure energy and contagious power. They repeatedly ask the listeners ‘Can you feel it?’, to which we can only answer ‘Yes;’ this track’s vivacious holler and unrelenting force can certainly be felt.

Can You Feel It feels like a real step up for The Denabys, seeing them come into their own with a brilliantly unique sound. The potential is there, and I can’t wait to see where it takes them.
