WILLY VLAUTIN LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

One of Manchester’s coolest venues played host to Nevada native Willy Vlautin on Thursday evening. The night was expertly hosted by Claire Malcolm who did a sterling job of gently probing Vlautin about his latest novel ‘The Horse’.

The evening started with the interview in which Valeting discussed what inspired his writing both in book form and musically. The discussion was a wonderful opportunity to see how Vlautin takes inspiration from his childhood and the state he grew up in, citing Tom Waits and other ‘strange artists’ as an influence.

When asked by Malcolm how he knows when he has written a great track, Vlautin confessed that he does not always know, and it often boils down to his peers having a listen and providing feedback. Vlautin spoke candidly and with a dry humour that appealed to his fan base (the event proved popular – not one empty seat in the house).

The evening was split into three parts, with the second part being a live performance from Vlautin. A rarer occurrence as of course he would often be accompanied by his bandmates in Richmond Fontaine. The setlist was a mixture of Delines (Vlautin’s other band) and Richmond Fontaine tracks. The excellent sound at the venue allowed for Vlautin to showcase his exceptional vocals, soulful and of course a huge country element.

Vlautin is currently touring the UK on his book launch and you can find out below where to catch him!
