Hiya Annabelle Walt, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old. It’s a vital need for me, something I was born with. I’ve never questioned it; I’ve always made music without thinking it could be any other way.

Introduce us to you and your musical history.

I started singing and taking singing lessons very young. I also did musical theater because I was into acting and dancing, and I wanted to combine everything I loved. But I realized that mixing singing with theater distorted my relationship with music. I’ve always wanted to do pop; it’s my universe, it always has been. Musical theater was taking me away from that.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

This year, the two artists who have inspired me the most are Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa with their latest albums. I love that you can have danceable tracks that communicate joy and others that are deeper, making us reflect and doubt. Besides them, I really love The Weeknd; I think he has revolutionized pop with a futuristic approach. I try to create music that uses pop to convey all kinds of emotions and energies.

Tell us two truths and a lie about you.

I acted in a major Franco-English series.

I spent a long time dressed as the Little Mermaid at Disneyland Paris.

I have an obsession with blind boxes, and it’ll probably all end up at a flea market.

What are the next steps you plan to reach the next level?

I’m planning my first dates in the US, UK, and France. I’m very eager to reconnect with the stage and present my songs to the audience.

I hear you have new music, what can you tell us about it.

I just released an EP called *Chills*, with four tracks. It unveils an airy and enchanting pop universe. The EP touches on themes of love, relationships, emancipation, and introspection. It’s a pop EP, but I’ve added electro, R&B, and oriental inspirations.

What was the recording process like?

I work on melodies I find, then I write the toplines and lyrics. With that, I go to the studio with my team, Maxence Davo and Mathieu Llech, and we work on the music production.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

I enjoyed creating simple, vivid, sometimes modest songs, and others that are more complex, engaging, requiring me to give more of myself and show more of my intimacy. I like navigating my writing between the two, without setting any limits.

What is your favorite track in this new EP?

“Shell.” It’s the song I find the most sensual, the one where I opened up the most, and had to set my ego aside. We worked a lot on the arrangements to have a sensual but also explosive production. It’s the beginning of a love story, but it’s also an incredibly liberating song that makes me feel super sexy.
