Hailing from the bustling streets of Liverpool, the rock band Attic Theory wonders “What We Fear The Most” with the release of their debut album. Behind the name Attic Theory we find vocalist Lewis Wright, guitarists Peter Donnelly, Tim Cunningham, and Matt Lawler, bassist Kenny McArthur, and drummer Norm Walker.
Comprising 11 tracks the album is a blend of emotions and genres. It kicks off with “Violent Delight” and the opening track couldn’t bear a better name. Listening to the song is a true pleasure, from the chorus allowing us to enjoy Lewis Wright’s singing prowess to the incredible guitar solo – I wished it lasted a little longer.
As a French person, the next track that caught my attention is “Papier-Mâché” – maybe a nod to their French fans? What’s even better is that it starts with a beautiful and peaceful intro and then it turns into a powerful alt-rock track. The band never ceases to amaze us with each new song.
A few tracks later, we have “Sweet Parasite”, a standout track exuding gritty grunge vibes. The mid-song deviation keeps us on the edge of our seats and we can’t help but anticipate another surprise from Attic Theory.
The album comes to an end with “The Legacy”. Again, while it begins as a tender acoustic ballad, it then blossoms into a captivating fusion of folk, singer-songwriter, and rock elements. Featuring singer Lucy Ellen, her beautiful vocals intertwine with soft drums, electric guitar and Lewis Wright’s mesmerizing, yet powerful delivery.
Throughout “What We Fear The Most”, Attic Theory showcases their virtuosity and cohesion as a band, with each member contributing their unique talents to the collective sound.
“What We Fear The Most” is undoubtedly a strong debut album from Attic Theory. Moreover, with its diverse range of tracks and as they say “with grooves deeper than the river Mersey itself”, it’s sure to appeal to fans of rock and beyond.
