ALEX SPENCER LIVE IN MANCHESTER – WHAT HAPPENED?

Latest indie sensation and teenage wonderkid Alex Spencer is making quite a name for himself in the North West (and beyond). The seventeen year old played his largest headline show to date on Friday evening, playing to nearly 500 music fans and sold out Manchester’s Academy 3 venue weeks ago.

RGM caught up with Alex backstage before his gig along with his band members, Harrison, Annabel and Will who completes the foursome. Alex was in good spirts not quite believing himself how popular he has become with an increasing fanbase and people still ringing his phone desperate to get last minute tickets!

The gig room was jam packed with screaming fans, quite possibly the busiest I have ever seen that venue. Impression when you have a whole plethora of live music on offer in Manchester on a Friday evening making this sell out show all the more impressive. The Wedding Present were playing downstairs!

Alex has a wonderful rapport with his fans who sing a long to every single word. One of the loudest cheers of the evening was when Alex bought on little brother Luca to help him perform Oasis’s ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’. The brothers became well known in lockdown for busking on the streets of Manchester and uploading videos to social media, garnering quite a following before the live gigs were even played.

Alex has the confidence and stage presence of a seasoned musician and has written a series of very catchy songs that stick in your head. The band certainly add an extra element sound wise and the four seem to gel incredibly well, each talented in their own right. I do predict that on his current trajectory, Alex will be headlining the Academy 2 and main stage in the next few years.

Alex and the band have already booked in for a number of festivals this summer and you can next see them live at Manchester’s Neighbourhood festival later this year.
