Hiya Edie, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.

What made you decide that music is a thing for you?

EY: I have been singing and performing since I was tiny. In 2018 Kristin Kontrol invited a group of kids to perform with her and other female rock legends at Girl School music festival at the former Bootleg theater organized by producer Anna Bulbrook. I sang Fade Into You. That night was exceptional, inspiring, and changed my life! From that moement on, I knew this is what I wanted to do.

Introduce us to you all and your musical history.

EY: I did musical theater at YADA (Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts) starting when I was 3. When the shows were no longer live and pivoted to online during Covid I found myself performing Les Miserables on Zoom and turned to writing my own music on my guitar and keyboard in my room. I started recording and releasing a single per month since then. Now I have the song writing and recording bug and cannot stop.

What was life like for you before music?

EY: I don’t remember life before music. My Abuela is a Nicaraguan opera singer and we have sang together since I was a baby. 

What was the first song you heard that steered you into a music path?

EY: When I was little I used to sing Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers” with a microphone at home.

Where do you feel you currently sit within the music industry?

EY: I am only just beginning – just starting out on this journey and writing, recording, and releasing dream-pop, teen-pop music independently. I hope this is what I get to do write, record and perform for a life time.

What’s the biggest thing you have learned from someone else in the industry?

EY: To trust yourself, stay true to your instincts and your sound.

Tell us Two truths and a lie about you.

EY: I watch Vanderpump Rules on repeat. I collect contemporary art. I rescued 3 pit bulls.

If you could wish for one thing to aid your career what would it be?

EY: To collaborate with some musical heroes and heroines.

Do you ever worry about people taking things the wrong way or cancel culture? Discuss….

EY: I am a very sensitive and empathetic person. Cultural sensitivity, care, and compassion are at the core of who I am. I don’t think you can worry about that, only be the best person you can and do your best to contribute creatively and conscientiously.

What was the worst experience on stage?

EY: The first time I performed live I couldn’t hear myself and the sound balance was off. It is a learning process.

Tell us something about you that you think people would be surprised about.

EY: I’m a huge Rihanna fan!

What are the next steps you plan to take as a band to reach the next level?

EY: So far, doing more and more live performances, getting reps in and more comfortable together on stage. 

Whats your thoughts on Elon Musks contribution to the world?

EY: Oh Lord. Ecological consciousness is paramount for my generation. I am all about attending to life on earth at this point. I’m fascinated by the cosmos but not trying to go to Mars.

I hear you have a new music, what can you tell us about it.

EY: I have an EP titles “#Covers” coming out on May 3rd including Fade Into You by Mazzy Star, a No Doubt cover of Sometimes, and the Blind Melon cover I did with Douglas Boehm of No Rain.

What was the recording process like? 

EY: My producing team Cormac Liotta and Nicky Swedin have a real short hand now working together but we try to get enough takes and approach the song differently each time until we feel there is a balance between the values and vibes of the original and making sure there are enough Edie-isms represented in the track.

What was the biggest learning curve in writing the new tunes?

EY: Focusing on covers this month has been interesting and trying to make something your own while staying true to an iconic song is the challenge.
