As glimpses of sunshine and warmer days beckon in the Summer, there’s little more desired than a soundtrack to match. Chesterfield-based outfit Hideaway Club have just dropped their latest single, and it embodies everything great about this transitional period.

Heavenly Shades begins with a captivating effervescence shaped by trebly guitar tones, rising drums and a cool, melodic bassline. The verse proceeds, harbouring an infectious groove topped by raspy vocals that push and pull while the accompaniment replicates the singer’s rhythms.

An air of funk surrounds this primarily indie track, reinforcing Hideaway Club’s genre fluidity and boldness in not pinning themselves to a particular label.

The first two minutes maintain the groove and boast some seriously catchy vocal hooks. Each part is balanced well; however, the singer’s unclear diction makes the lyrics difficult to understand. This may be his singing style, which lends itself to the laid-back vibe, but it’s nice to match the words to the music, especially when the melodies are so strong.

Around the two-minute mark, Hideaway Club switch things up and lead us into a more upbeat section with faster instrumentation and more consistent vocals. It almost feels like a different tune, but the smooth transition neatly ties everything together.

Heavenly Shades is a prime demonstration of this band’s potential. The light-hearted feel paired with its ability to hold listener attention, through catchy hooks and changing sections, makes it a compelling tune. It definitely deserves a place in your Summer playlist!
